[edit] Quotes on the Portal
Considering the huge population of Wikipedia, only a few of us here know Tamil. Wouldn't it make more sense to explain in English what the present quote displayed on the portal means?--Vaishu2 05:22, 24 March 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Kazhagam
Does kazhagam translate into Assembly/Conference? I am going to assume DMK and TMMK with those meanings. Katchi means Party while iyakkam means Movement. Anwar 16:01, 28 August 2007 (UTC)
- According to [1], [2], [3], and [4], it's an assembly of (usually) an elite set of people. -- Sundar \talk \contribs 07:16, 29 August 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Logo of Government of Tamil Nadu

[edit] Podhukuzhu/Seyarkuzhu
Does thondar ani translate into Members' Wing? I thought uruppinar mean Members. Does podhukuzhu translate into General Meeting? Does seyarkuzhu translate into Secretariat? I am having a bit of trouble in trying to translate the Constitution of TMMK into plain English. I have assumed thalaivar as the equivalent of President, thunai thalaivar as Vice President, seyalaalar as Secretary, porulaalar as Treasurer, maanila seyalaalar as Secretary of State, thunai seyalaalar as Deputy Secretary. -
- General Meeting should translate to pothukootam
- Kuzhu is Council or Congress or Committee
- Seyarkuzhu is Working Committee
- Thondar in political scenario stands for Volunteers
- These I believe are the right translations having had the track record of getting full score for Translation in school. ;P ώiki Ѕαи Яоzε †αLҝ 13:58, 14 September 2007 (UTC)
- I am not very confident about volunteer meaning thondan. Anyway, I have changed the TMMK article to that effect. Also, what is the translation for Maanaadu?Anwar 20:57, 17 September 2007 (UTC)
- Maanaadu should directly translate to congress if am right. Sorry am not too sure about this. As far as thondar are concerned it is also used synonymous too members or devout followers in popular media, although they are not. Cheers ώiki Ѕαи Яоzε †αLҝ 22:42, 17 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Thaalaalar
What does thaalaalar translate into in English? I came across this word in a vernacular daily. It refers to some office in a political party or university. Anwar 09:24, 28 September 2007 (UTC)
- Was used something close to rector in my school. Don't quote me on this one though. Cheers ώiki Ѕαи Яоzε †αLҝ 10:49, 28 September 2007 (UTC)
