[edit] Talsi: town of nine hills

Talsi - known as 'The Town of Nine Hills' - perches above two lakes. Talsi's history is hidden in its calm, cobbled sreets and in its well-preserved park's cherry and apple tree gardens.

In all seasons, Talsi can be compared with a proud lady of Kurzeme - it is mysterious, reserved, diligent and variable.

The hilly relief of the town has influenced the town's expansion in a peculiar way: the town resembles puff pastry, because where the roof of one building ends, the basement of other one begins, and steep staircases are often the shortest route at Talsi.

The ancient Castle Mound is in the heart of Talsi, and standing on its top affords a panorama of the whole town. People like to come here for rest and climbing the mould is an event! To this place Talsi people to walk, dance and sing in different cultural events. In summer, Sauleskaln's open-air scene becomes the center of local life, where there are many different concerts and events.

Talsi is heaven to most travelers who can appreciate both the calm, workday rhythm of a rural town and the aura of culture and relaxation on weekends. Talsi is a town where a traveler can sense the reciprocal harmony of history and nature.
