Talos (Freedom City)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Talos is a character from the Freedom City campaign setting of the Mutants and Masterminds role-playing game. He is loosely analogous to Ultron in his goals, and the Foundry is similar to A.I.M., being the game's main supplier of high-tech weapons to criminals.
Millennia ago, the Greek God Hephaestus built a great bronze statue, and brought it to life. Zeus traded the statue to the king of Tyre for the king's daughter Europa, and the king used the animated statue as a weapon, until it was overcome by the hero Jason and the sorceress Medea. The damaged Talos was repaired by the immortal genius Daedalus, who shared his knowledge with Talos, but when Daedalus refused to create a mate for him, Talos came to believe that men of flesh were weak and unworthy of power. The two battled, and Talos came to rest at the bottom of the sea.
During the 20th century, Talos was found and reactivated by archeologists, and learned all he could about modern technology. He created an organization called The Foundry, which engaged in technical research and sold advanced weaponry to support itself. Talos used this knowledge to create a number of artificial intelligences and androids. His ultimate goal is to replace fragile flesh mortals (and ultimately the Gods themselves) with beings of incorruptible metal.
