[edit] Thanks for joining Wikipedia, Taksen
Hi, I'm Xiong Chiamiov, another user at Wikipedia. If you ever need some help, please drop a message on my talk page (User_talk:Xiong Chiamiov). If you're wondering how to edit a page, going to Wikipedia:How to edit a page may be useful. Below are some tips which many come in handy sometime:
- When writing a comment or sending a message, adding ~~~~ on the end will add your signature, as well as the current time and date. Your signature can be changed by going to Special:Preferences, or by clicking "my preferences" in the top right.
- If you want to test that you can really edit pages, you may wish to go to Wikipedia:Sandbox, and you can add whatever you want! However, please do not make edits to Wikipedia articles with the intention of ruining them, as such edits are considered to be Vandalism.
Remember, if you need help, there are loads of places you can get it:
- You can post a message on my talk page, (User talk:Xiong Chiamiov), and I'll get back to you as soon as I can.
- You can add {{helpme}} to this page, and another user will try to help
- Or, you can go to Wikipedia:New contributors' help page.
Thanks again for coming to Wikipedia, and I look forward to seeing your contributions. And remember, Be bold in updating pages! -- Xiong Chiamiov :: contact :: 21:21, 16 December 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for uploading Image:Albertburgh.gif. The image has been identified as not specifying the source and creator of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. [edit] Saskia
Thank you for your considerate words. You did the real work by adding good content to the article; all I did was a spot of cleaning up. Best wishes, and I hope you are enjoying nice weather in Amsterdam--some day I hope to visit. JNW 11:07, 3 January 2007 (UTC)
- I will be happy to help, though I probably won't be able to do much for a while; I will be away from the computer for the next ten days, then returning to my academic responsibilities (teaching). Best wishes and happy new year, JNW 22:51, 4 January 2007 (UTC)
- I agree that the information you added to the entry on Saskia was informative and interesting, but as I noted in the explanation for revisions, much of it was just not related to Saskia's life, but rather, to Rembrandt's. I have not had the time to move the information to his biography--if it is important, then surely it can be added there. No offense was intended, only the desire to incorporate information pertaining most directly to the subject. JNW 18:11, 26 January 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Helpme on Montgolfier brothers
Hi, you placed a {{helpme}} tag on the Montgolfier brothers article. What would you like help with? When you have answered, please put the {{helpme}} here, on this page. Thanks! - Tangotango (talk) 13:01, 27 February 2007 (UTC) P.S. Please don't put the {{helpme}} template on articles; it is for user talk pages only.
- Hey. You left me a message about that article a bit ago, and I would love to look at it. I'm only on Wikipedia sometimes, so I may be a bit slow, but I'll do anything I can to help. Xiong Chiamiov :: contact :: 00:23, 8 March 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Commercial use of Image:Sondershausen Blauer Saal.JPG
Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Image:Sondershausen Blauer Saal.JPG, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Image:Sondershausen Blauer Saal.JPG has a copyright license type implying some type of restricted use, such as for non-commercial use only, or for educational use only or for use on Wikipedia by permission, which was either uploaded on or after 2005-05-19 or is not used in any articles (CSD I3). While it might seem reasonable to assume that such files can be freely used on Wikipedia, this is in fact not the case[1][2]. Please do not upload any more files with these restrictions on them, because content on Wikipedia needs to be compatible with the GNU Free Documentation License, which allows anyone to use it for any purpose, commercial or non-commercial. See our non-free content guidelines for more more information.
If you created this media file and want to use it on Wikipedia, you may re-upload it (or amend the image description if it has not yet been deleted) and use the license {{GFDL-self}} to license it under the GFDL, or {{cc-by-sa-2.5}} to license it under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike license, or use {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain.
If you did not create this media file but want to use it on Wikipedia, there are two ways to proceed. First, you may choose one of the fair use tags from this list if you believe one of those fair use rationales applies to this file. Second, you may want to contact the copyright holder and request that they make the media available under a free license.
If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. This bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion, it did not nominate Image:Sondershausen Blauer Saal.JPG itself. Feel free to leave a message on the bot operator's talk page if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot. If you have any questions about what to do next or why your image was nominated for speedy deletion please ask at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thanks. --Android Mouse Bot 2 11:27, 18 July 2007 (UTC)

Hello User:Neddyseagoon you are copying my articles from the Dutch Wikipedia, without checking its content, including the mistakes. Taksen
- Well, translating the Dutch page for an English language version on a Dutch artist seems logical enough, and has precedent. Rather than merely complaining, could you perhaps run through them (here's my contributions list) and double check them for mistakes? Your translation skills will be ten times better than mine, I'm sure - I'm only a Dutch beginner, but have plenty of spare time to translate. :-) Neddyseagoon - talk 13:53, 10 August 2007 (UTC)
- I've done all the ones you requested on my talkpage, so if you could check them that would be great, but I may not have time to do any more for a while. Neddyseagoon - talk 12:04, 11 September 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Images at the IISG
Hi Taksen, I am writing you because I was told you might be able to help me on something.
I would like to add some images to the articles about the Free Association of German Trade Unions and the Free Workers' Union of Germany that are in the IISG's archives. I could ask them to scan the pictures an e-mail them to me, but that would cost me 30 Euros per image and I can't afford that. If someone were to go there and copy the pictures and then scan themselves that would cost a few Euros in total at the most. I was wondering if you would be willing to go there and do this for me (and Wikipedia). I would of course re-imburse you for the money you spend for the copies. The IISG is located on Cruquiusweg in Amsterdam. If you don't have the time to do this or don't want, that's not a problem, I might be able to find someone else.--Carabinieri 04:32, 14 September 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Translation of Dirk van Hogendorp
I tried my best to translate the article, using the English and German versions. I also used some information from the Dutch article, but my understanding of the laguage is poor. Can you check and place the picture in the Commons? pt:User:Angrense —Preceding unsigned comment added by 85.240.20.142 (talk) 00:12, 16 September 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Hi
I just fllowed the links from your recent edit (thanks) and saw that you had written a piece on the Montgolfier brothers. Just a thought... but there is this Frenchman in India called Claude Martin and there is a legend/story that he had a balloon there not too long after Montgolfier. Just wonder if you might have an idea of where I might look to find a connection? ... if there is one Victuallers 10:23, 29 September 2007 (UTC)
I'll try ... can you send me a link for the pic? Victuallers 18:10, 29 September 2007 (UTC) Done! You should find it athe bottom of the nl version. I have added a commons box ... I think Victuallers 19:05, 29 September 2007 (UTC)
Hi its late ... maybe too late for you? Lemma? sorry I don't get that word. Confused as to why you removed the image ... but its not a big issue. Thank you for this insight into Dutch history which I was not aware of (at all). Victuallers 21:13, 29 September 2007 (UTC). Well done on the B rating Victuallers 14:27, 30 September 2007 (UTC)
[edit] problem
DYK editors are saying that we do not have an inline reference for the claim about the two profs losing the article. Could you try and find one? I'll wtite an alternative hook in case. Victuallers 22:51, 30 September 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Wiselius
[edit] DYK October 1
--Andrew c [talk] 17:17, 1 October 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks for your comment. Unfortunately, because of the large number of newly created articles (just see Template talk:Did you know which is constantly updated), the community has decided that DYK should be updated roughly every 6 hours to prevent a large backlog of suggestions. You are welcome to raise your concerns at WT:DYK, or read the rules at WP:DYK. Sorry we can't have your article on the main page for longer. -Andrew c [talk] 22:22, 3 October 2007 (UTC)
[edit] hi
Hi Taks, thanks for your mails. I do appreciate them. Firstly a meal? Not sure I'm coming to Amsterdam but if you are coming to East Midlands airport then drop me a line. Oh and DYK only lasts a day.... in fact it only lasts half a day as its a 24 hour affair. I guess its meant to make sure that the main page is always "new". NeddySeagoon has given me three Dutch articles ... I'm not too sure whether they will get on "the list" ... I seem to flit from project to project. Still your talk page looks better with a DYK sticker on it! Cheers Roger aka Victuallers 20:21, 3 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Rumiantsev Museum
Hi Taksen, it seems Neddyseagoon has merged this article into the one about the Russian State Library. I'm not sure about the merits of this merger since it does seem like the Rumyantsev Museum and the Lenin Library were too distinctly different institutions that just happened to be housed in the same building complex. Anyway, I've gone through the part about the Rumiantsev Museum and did some copyediting. The translation generally looks pretty good, but there were a few issues: I've changed the translation of "Vom Staatskanzler Graf Rumjanzew zu Zwecken der guten Aufklärung" to "from count Rumyantsev for the good Enlightenment", since "for the purpose of the good Enlightenment" sounds a bit weird to me. You could also write "towards the good Enlightenment" and the "the" might also be removed, but I'll leave that up to you. My understanding of the German article was that the Puskin Musem was finished a few years before 1925, not before the Rumiantsev Museum's completion, so I've changed that.--Carabinieri 23:54, 9 November 2007 (UTC)
[edit] dyk
I think I can manage this cartographer ... is it yours or neddys or both? You minght do me the same and look at doing the same for Thomas Denman (Physician) ? if you can... but youll need to be quick.
Is there are more detail of his involvement with William of Orange coming to the UK? Its hinted at in the article and one of my first articles was Old Whittington so im interested by the link
Correction: Ive just realised the article is more than 5 days old... thats one of the DYK rules. It has to be no older than five days ... sorry Victuallers (talk) 12:10, 17 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Jan Jacobszoon Hinlopen Legacy / Ahasuerus and Haman at the Feast of Esther
I noticed that you moved a paragraph about Jan Jacobszoon Hinlopen's estate division from his own article into an article about the painting Ahasuerus and Haman at the feast of Esther (the "Provenance" section). I don't think that paragraph is nearly as germane to the painting as it is to JJH. The paragraph cannot even cite any documentation that the painting was indeed part of the estate. The painting's article does link to JJH's article for further clarification.
I'd like to move the paragraph back into the JJH article, where it seems more germane. Please let me know if there's a good reason why I shouldn't. —Preceding unsigned comment added by DocRuby (talk • contribs) 22:55, 21 March 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Johan Huydecoper
I'm sorry you think I'm arrogant - busy with other things is probably a more accurate reason. Translating articles from one language to another is common practice in Wikipedia - it is certainly not regarded as plagiarism or thieving. The fine print tells you quite clearly that when you write something for WP, it is no longer your property. The other thing about WP is that you are free to correct any error you come across - you certainly don't need my permission nor have you to wait for me to make the correction. As it says in your welcome:Be bold in updating pages! ciao Rotational (talk) 13:12, 23 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] van der Hoeven
Many thanks. Your English is excellent but one or two small changes are necessary. I will do this tomorrow. Perhaps you would look at van der Poll [5] for me.I studied in Leiden Natural History Museum man years ago so I am very aware of the old Dutch naturalists, many of them merchants or traders. Most of the key information is in Dutch.A real problem for me.Best wishes from Ireland. I will kkep in touch Robert 20:59, 11 April 2008 (UTC)
[edit] van der Hoeven
I have made minor changes to your text. However this may not reflect your exact meaning. For instance I have changed "to use latin" to "to teach in Latin" and assumed that you meant he was one of the last professors to teach in Latin. Is this correct? Best regards Robert Notafly (talk) 17:50, 12 April 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Guerra della marmitta e Prima Rivoluzione batava
Thanks a lot. It is a very interesting period, expecially because of the quasi-freedom condition of nl political debate at the time. Many aspects (ie: lack of national goals by the 'prince', international decline, constitutional oldness, active interference from great powers, etc.) has a lot to say to nowadays Italians.
My pleasure. It:User:Musso —Preceding unsigned comment added by MussoMusso (talk • contribs) 18:27, 21 April 2008 (UTC)
