Takht (Sikhism)

The word Takht literally means 'seat of power' or 'throne of authority' and refers to one of the five bodies of temporal physical authority of the Sikhs. Sometimes 'Takht' is spelled 'Takhat' or even 'Takat'.
These five authoritative bodies of power are:
- Akal Takht, at Amritsar, East Punjab or Punjab (India)
- Keshgarh Sahib, at Anandpur, East Punjab or Punjab (India)
- Patna Sahib, at Patna in Bihar
- Hazur Sahib, at Nanded in Maharashtra
- Damdama Sahib, in Talwandi Sabo, Bhatinda or Bathinda, East Punjab or Punjab (India)
