Takeshi Okumura (奥村 健 Okumura Takeshi?) (b. April 24, 1952 in Fukuoka, Japan) is a Japanese professional pool player.

[edit] Professional Career

He started playing pool at 16 and turned professional ten years later.[1]

Okumura's early moments of dominance started when he won the WPA World Nine-ball Championship in 1994. He was the first WPA World Nine-ball Champion from Japan (the second and only other being Kunihiko Takahashi).

A year later, he almost won the International Challenge of Champions but Chao Fong-pang bested him in the last match. In 2000, he nearly won the US Open Nine-ball Championship but lost to Earl Strickland , 5-11, in the finals. He nearly had a shot for a second world title 2002 but again was defeated by Earl Strickland in the semis.

In 2005, Okumura showed what he was truly made of by defeating highly regarded players such as Efren Reyes, Yang Ching-shun and Mika Immonen to win the All Japan Championship.
