Take off Your Pants and Jacket is Blink-182's fourth studio album. It was released on June 12, 2001 by MCA Records, and contained the hit singles "The Rock Show", "First Date", "Stay Together for the Kids" and "Anthem Part Two". The album sold over twelve million records worldwide while going double platinum in the US. It was originally printed with three different editions, each with different colored discs and different colored covers. Each different type of CD had a separate duo of hidden tracks, one serious, the other a joke song. The bonus tracks were only available on the original pressings of the three variations. The album's title is a tongue-in-cheek pun on male masturbation ("take off your pants and jack-it").

The album was a huge success debuting at #1 and selling more than 350,000 copies in its first week on the Billboard 200 becoming the band's first and only album to do so, and is Blink-182's 2nd best selling album. It was recorded in just 10 days.

[edit] Other Album Title

Around 2002, Tom DeLonge stated in an interview that the band toyed with the idea of the album being called "Vasectomy, Vasecto-you" (Pronouced Vasecto-me, Vasecto-you), which was along the same lines as the "Take off Your Pants and Jacket" a pun of male masturbation. The idea was scrapped though, thus 'Take off Your Pants and Jacket' making the final title.

[edit] Promotion

Blink-182 made a commercial to promote this album, where Mark Hoppus was a doctor who used Take off Your Pants and Jacket as a medicine. Tom DeLonge explained how Blink-182 now has 50% better songs and to listen to it 14 times daily, the number of tracks on the edited Red Plane, Yellow Pants, and Green Jacket versions of the CD. Travis only made a short appearance for a second as Mark gave him a prostate exam. At the end, Mark exclaims "Fuck Yeah!" The commercial never made an appearance on television, but it is available on YouTube here: [1].
