Why we need ground isolated feature in RS422/RS485 connection?

Because RS422/RS485 connection is used in long distance connection environment. The voltage difference between two device (may be ground bounce generated by rainy day) may be too large to damage logic IC in your system to use RS422/RS485 connection. The ground isolated feature can not protect the interface IC in RS422/RS485 connection. But we can protect the system to use RS422/RS485 connection.
