Taina Hernandez is a correspondent for ABC News. She graduated from Brown University in 1996[1].
A native of Brooklyn, New York,[2] Hernandez joined ABC News in 2001 as a correspondent for NewsOne, ABC's affiliate news service. She anchors the overnight broadcast ABC World News Now and appears regularly on Good Morning America and World News.
She has reported from the West Coast on a number of high profile criminal cases, including the trials of Michael Jackson, Robert Blake, and the disappearance and murder of Laci Peterson in Modesto, California. Hernandez has also reported from the Middle East on the rising tensions in the region. She traveled to Guatemala to cover the medical progress of formerly conjoined twins.
As a NewsOne correspondent, Hernandez reported from Washington, DC and New York covering breaking news, including extensive post-September 11, 2001 coverage.
Before joining ABC News, Hernandez was a political reporter at NY1 News where she covered the 2000 United States Senate campaign of Hillary Clinton and the mayoralty of Rudy Giuliani. While at NY1 News, she covered the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001 and the aftermath. She also reported on the campaign of New York City Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg.
During World News Now broadcasts, Hernandez and co-anchor Ryan Owens have laughed occasionally while delivering news stories.[3] Industry observers have objected to this as unprofessional for journalists while regular fans have pointed out that they enjoy their light-hearted style and the casual, "graveyard shift" format of the World News Now program.
On December 18, 2007 Hernandez announced on the air that she was stepping down from her position on the ABC News morning team because she was having another baby.[4]
Taina has been married to James "Jamie" McShane, a political producer for CNN in Los Angeles, since 2003. [5]
