Taihu County

Taihu County (Chinese: 太湖县; Pinyin: Tàihú Xiàn) is a county in Anhui under the jurisdiction of Anqing City. Its population is 560,000 and its area is 2031 square kilometers. The government of Taihu County is located in Jingxi Town.

Taihu County has jurisdiction over 9 towns and 6 townships.

Taihu is famous for its lake named "Huating Lake" with mountains and scenery waters. The lake was originally built for flood control and power generation with a dam constructed in the 1960s. Though in the earlier days it had been blamed for destroying lots of farm land, it is now widely advocated as a traveling place.

It also has a long history in the Chinese Zen, which is an important tributary of the Chinese Buddhism.
