Tadhg Purcell (born 2 September 1985) is a striker who currently plays for Shamrock Rovers F.C. in the Eircom Premier Division [1].
He was raised in Dundrum, Dublin and is currently studying a degree in Science at undergraduate level, in UCD.
[edit] Early football career
Tadhg played most his schoolboy career at Leicester Celtic. He played alongside his fellow team mate and current Shamrock Rovers goalkeeper Barry Murphy (footballer born 1985). He also gained success with his St.Benildus Soccer team. He was part of the U18 Dublin Soccer champions team at St. Benildus College in 2003. They beat Malahide 1-0 in the final, which was held in Wayside Celtics ground. Conor Sammon (now of Derry City) was on the opposing Malahide team.
[edit] Semi-professional career
Tadhg originally received a soccer scholarship off University College Dublin A.F.C. UCD, where he played the beginning of his senior career. He played on several occasions for UCD in the Eircom League 2004 season. However, he and Pete Mahon, the UCD manager did not see eye to eye. Purcell then moved to Kilkenny City under the astute management of Pat Scully for the 2005 season. He spent a season there with Pat but then moved to Shamrock Rovers for the 2006 season along with his fellow manager Scully after Kilkenny failed to get promoted from the First Division.
He made his Rovers debut in the opening game of the 2006 season[2]. Tadhg is currently receiving considerable success at Shamrock Rovers, as he helped them gain promotion by winning the First Division in the 2006 season and is now playing regularly for the side in the top flight of Irish soccer, the Eircom League.
