Tadao Nagahama (長浜 忠夫 Nagahama Tadao) (b. September 26, 1936, d. January 14, 1980) was a director of the puppet show and a director of animation. Since he was a director of a type who cannot draw a picture, he needed an animation director describing a picture. His most important contribution to animation was arguably the Romantic Trilogy, which added human drama to the Super Robot Genre.
Nagahama also directed several hit anime which most Japanese still know. Moreover, he produced the hit with works of all genres, such as a sport, a comedy, for boys, for girls, and Super Robot. Therefore some one called him "the Emperor" in imitation of Akira Kurosawa of the film director.
He was infected with a virus during overseas travel with his wife and has suffered from hepatitis. His wife escaped death, but he was not saved.
