A table mountain is a flat-topped mountain. The term may be used to refer to a type of subglacial volcano properly called a tuya, which forms a mountain with very steep sides and a flat summit. Mesa (Spanish for "table") is a generic word in English used in the western United States to describe a flat-topped mountain or hill.
