[edit] Playing career
Hensick spent four years (2003–07) at University of Michigan playing collegiate ice hockey. He was well known in college hockey, especially among University of Michigan fans, for his explosive speed and refined puck handling skills. He had a league leading 69 points and 46 assists in the 2006–2007 season, but surprisingly was not among the three finalists for the Hobey Baker Award.
Hensick was playing in the AHL for the Lake Erie Monsters, the Avalanche's AHL affiliate team. He was Lake Erie's only contribution to the AHL All-Star game. He was called up to the Avalanche on November 29, 2007, and scored his first NHL goal against the Los Angeles Kings on December 1, 2007.
Hensick previously played amateur hockey with the Honeybaked Hockey Program and the United States National Development Program (USNDP-U18).
