[edit] Leeds United 2007-08 season
Hi, as a regular editor of the Leeds United wikipedia page, I just wanted to ask your advice on a matter. I found this page on FC Barcelona's 2007-08 season and was thinking of creating similiar page for Leeds? I can see no reason not to if other teams can have them, despite I suppose us being a team in a lower league although we definitely have the number of supporters that a Premier League or La Liga team would! t1v37r 19:23, 31 July 2007 (GMT)
- Hi, erm yeah, These pages do keep on cropping up. The problem with them is that people start them with the intentions of keeping them up-to date but in the end they stay un-finished. There are a whole series of articles for each county cricket side for the 2005 season (see Yorkshire's Here) however the person whom created these didn't feel the inkling to create one's for the 2006 or 2007 seasons. There is a wiki-project dedicated to Football and football articles and the consensus on there was to advise against them due to the fact that most remain un-finished and in a few years they won't be really required or read by users. I would however on the positive side say that they are informative articles. people looking back may want to find this information out, I would just say that if you do want to create this article make sure you are dedicated to it as especially since we are a division two side now few if any people will be with you in providing frequent edits (with more editors than not probably just editing to add vandalism if their team beats us). I myself try to keep the main page and history page up-to date with major events and, although impossible to balance the information, in proportion as much as possible to previous decades. I've been, meaning to increase the amount of information on the revie era, as a lot of information is available on fan sites, but I have never got round to it. Also although unlikely that we won't, its not certain that we'll have a 2007-08 season at the moment so if you are going to create this article it might be an idea to hang of just until we're given that all important golden share back (which I'm begging we are, even though we're so ill prepared I think it may result in yet another relegation battle). Sorry if all that's a little negative against the creation it's just personal opinion from seeing previous similar aricles lagg behind and become beyond the point where it requires a reasonable amount of effort to get back up-to date. - Right okay I get what you're saying. I may make a start in the next few days and put it up once we get the share (fingers crossed!!!). Cheers for the advice. t1v37r 21:51, 31 July 2007 (GMT)
- In theory it's a great idea, though it may be harder in practise. Nonetheless, should you decide to go ahead I'm more than happy to give you a hand in reverting vandalism and keeping it up to date. MOT Kaboooz LUFC TC 22:43, 31 July 2007 (UTC)
- If you're going to create the code and then move it if we get the share then just create it as a sub-page of your user page, i.e. at User:T1v37r/Leeds United A.F.C. 2007-08 season. will make it easier for you rather than saving the code on your own P.C. That way you can do all you would be able to with a normal page. p.s. Happy Yorkshire Day Chappy TC 11:57, 1 August 2007 (UTC)
- Quick note on the Squad Information you have on your 2007-08 page. Some of the players you have as coming in for a Free I seem to remember coming in for at-least nominal fees. We definately paid weldstone and barnet for beckford and kandol (think they were both under £100k each), douglas' page states that he moved for an undisclosed fee (and is referenced so you can use that reference). Also try to link to the actual page and not re-directs. The Eddie Lewis link goes to a disambiguation page, and links such as Leeds United should at-least use the Template:afc or Template:fc links, try to check the name of the page the club is under and then use the appropriate template. Also just a note on nationalities, I'd use the Template:citeweb for atleast richardson playing for scotland internationally as some may question it since scotland is not mentioned on his wikipedia page. - Cheers for the advice, Chappy84. I have sorted out the Lewis link... I checked Douglas/Beckford/Kandol (how could we pay money for him!?!?!) and confirmed they are undisclosed fees. All now corrected. Richardson... I'm sure he is Scottish, despite being in Rotherham, will try find a reference on the net somewhere. Will try and correct as many of the re-directs as I can, same with the the template:afc for Leeds United... any other advice at all? as much as possible would be welcome!!! One question, do you have any idea how to access the template regarding EU players? And also do you have any clue about the English rules for EU players - I don't myself... Regarding new stuff on the page, I obviously can't do the kit cos we don't have any sponsors or have a clue what the new kit is gonna be like. I'm gonna have a go at putting in the info about competitive matches sometime in the near future, then go on to Squad Stats. T1v37r, 2 August 2007, 15:41 GMT
- The english rules on EU players will most probably be the general EU laws on employment within the european union, i.e. if you're a citizen of a member state you can work in any other member state, outside the european union I think the rule is you have to have played in 75% of your countries A class matches to get a work permit. As for the EU player template, not quite sure what this is. One of [1] these might be it but if not try asking on Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Football, someone on there should be able to help you. Regarding the kit, sponsors won't change it as wikipedia can't sanction the use of sponsor images on examples of kits and any on wikipedia will be removed. As for the kit designs, we're still using last seasons at the mo so just use the ones from the main page until the club releases new designs , if they are even in the process of doing so. - Try looking at all the season links from the Boro template Template:Middlesbrough_F.C.. They may help. Chappy TC 12:08, 3 August 2007 (UTC)
- Cheers for the link, will check it out. This annoying -15 points deducation has caused a bit of a mess with the League table bit on the page... check it out. Any ideas of how to put us automatically with -15 points? T1v37r, 13:56, 4 August 2007 (GMT)
- Hi, I've created the Fb templates you are using in this article. I hope they are been helpful. These templates are new and have been constantly improved as needed. I realize you are using them looking at "What links here". I hope I'm not been intrusive, but I read your -15 points deduction problem and already change the Template:Fb cl team to include that kind of situation. Use the dp parameter. Also, I'd like to invade you to discuss on the templates talk when something is not working as good as could be. This away, the templates could be improved for all articles that are using them. Thank you.--ClaudioMB 18:10, 4 August 2007 (UTC)
- Thankyou ClaudioMB, I am new to Wikipedia and am still learning, getting better though so will see if I can sort the template out in the article. Thanks for creating the template and in the future I will ensure I use the template talk pages. Regards T1v37r, 4 August 2007, 22:58 (GMT)
- ClaudioMB, I've just had a go at getting the points tally to -15, but the minus sign does not show and says that this: — is not a valid character... any ideas at all? T1v37r, 08:55, 05 August 2007 (GMT)
- I don't know was happened, but I just enter the deducted points for Leeds in the Leeds' article and it's working. But I realize it's necessary an observation to explain the deduction points. I'll work on the templates to show allow a * or number for observations.--ClaudioMB 14:39, 5 August 2007 (UTC)
