I disagree with the speedy deletion notice. First, it's a stub with room to grow. There's only one person listed on it right now because I'm going through event by event and Syria had no archers and no competitors in Athletics in the events before the triple jump. Second, Syria is just as worthy of an article as any other NOC at the Olympics (Sean, Antarctica has no NOC. If it did, it would be worthy of a page). Third, we've already had discussions about noteworthiness of Olympic pages, and country pages have been determined to be encyclopedic. - Jonel 23:04, 31 Aug 2004 (UTC)

Yeah, that was sarcasm, Jonel. Now I understand. I missed the Olympic ruling, and therefore just put it up not thinking. Ever have one of those days? I'll delete the deletion notice ASAP. Sean 23:07, 31 Aug 2004 (UTC)

Why is this "Syrian Arab Republic" instead of just Syria? I haven't seen the extended name for other articles of its type. South Africa is just South Afriaca, not Union of South Africa. RickK 23:22, Aug 31, 2004 (UTC)

There are some other articles that are extended like this (I think Ireland, Iran, DPR Korea, and some others). The US article has been moved at least once. I haven't been messing with the titles, so I'm not sure why some are extended and others aren't. At some point, we need to decide how to handle these. - Jonel 23:42, 31 Aug 2004 (UTC)
