Syria sent one boxer, Naser Al Shami to Athens. He won his first two bouts one against Emmanuel Izonritei of Nigeria. The other was Vugar Alakbarov of Azerbaijan, who was disqualified.

  He was defeated in the semifinal by boxer Odlanier Solis Fonte of Cuba earning a bronze medal to put Syria in a five-way tie for 16th place in the boxing medal count.
