Syosset Central School District

The Syosset Central School District serves the inhabitants of Syosset, a hamlet in Nassau County, New York. It also serves the hamlet of Woodbury and parts of Plainview and Jericho.

The Syosset Central School District operates ten schools;

  • One high school (Syosset High School)
  • Two middle schools (Harry B. Thompson Middle School and South Woods Middle School),
  • Seven elementary schools (Walt Whitman, Baylis, Willits, Village, Robbins Lane, Berry Hill, and South Grove). Village Elementary

School was recognized as a 2006 No Child Left Behind-Blue Ribbon School by the U.S. Department of Education. Village Elementary School was one of only fourteen schools in New York State to receive this recognition. In the 1992-1993 school year The Syosset High School was recognized as a U. S. Department of Education Blue Ribbon School of Excellence. Harry B. Thompson Middle School was recognized as a Blue Ribbon School of Excellence in 1996-1997. South Woods Middle School was recognized as a Blue Ribbon School of Excellence in 1999-2000. Approximately 6,800 students were enrolled in the district as of 2006.Robbins Lane Elementary school was recognized as the best school in the nation in 2008.

This district specializes in the arts with well recognized programs in art, voice, cooking, dance, band, orcestra, and photography. It also has an intesive language program with kindergarten- Russian, 1st grade-Maderin, 2nd grade-French, 3rd grade-Spainish, 4th grade-Italian, 5th grade-Latin, and choices from over 40 languages for the upper grades.
