The American company Syntax-Brillian Corporation (NASDAQ: BRLC) was formed by the merger of Syntax (founded in May 2003 and started shipping widescreen HDTV-ready LCD televisions in April 2004) with Brillian Corporation (seller of Brillian brand televisions) on November 30, 2005.
The Brillian 6501mPB was named "best rear-projection TV" in PC Magazine's 2005 Holiday Gift Guide. [1]

The combined company now produces LCD televisions under its Ölevia brand.

On November 21, 2006 the company acquired privately held Vivitar Corporation which is now operated as a wholly-owned subsidiary. Vivitar sells digital still and video cameras.

On February 22, 2008, Syntax-Brillian received a NASDAQ Staff Determination Letter stating that it is not in compliance with NASDAQ Marketplace Rule 4310(c)(14) as a result of its failure to timely file its Quarterly Report on Form 10-Q for the quarter ended December 31, 2007 and that as a result, its securities are subject to delisting from The NASDAQ Global Market.[2]
It is currently being appealed; requesting an extension.
