Pens dipped in ink contained in the Syng inkstand were used to sign the United States Declaration of Independence and the United States Constitution. The inkstand was made by Philip Syng in 1752. He was a renowned silversmith and created fine works in silver and sometimes gold for the rich families of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

The inkstand is presently on display at Independence Hall in Philadelphia.
