Synergy is a corporation owned by the Government of Western Australia. It was split from the monolithic vertical monopoly, Western Power, in 2006 during reforms to the state's energy sector. It retails electricity to residents and both electricity and gas to businesses in the state. It has no electricity infrastructure of its own. It has only administrative and fiscal functions, and performs no value-adding service to the electricity is buys from Western Power.
