Syndicat de la Magistrature

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Syndicat de la Magistrature is the French second largest magistrates trade union - in terms of membership - after the more conservative Union syndicale des magistrats.

Comparable to US liberal organizations, it is closer to the left-wing parties such as the French Socialist Party rather than the right-wing Union for a Popular Movement. It is in favor of the independence of justice toward the executive power, and often criticizes police brutality or harsh immigration laws. During the 2005 civil unrest in France, it criticized then Interior Minister Nicolas Sarkozy's use of inappropriate language.

The Syndicat de la magistrature is member of M.E.D.E.L, a progressist N.G.O of judges and public prosecutors.
