Syncopated drumming is a style of drumming which is very popular in Southern California, mainly the city of Long Beach. It consists of four main instruments: a snare with a loose sounding ring; a tenor drum, with a low booming sound similar to that of a floor tom; a bass, which is typically tuned as low as possible for bottom end sound; and cymbals which are identical to rudimental marching cymbals. This style of drumming is used for drum cadences (solo percussion performances), and typically consists of sixteenth notes with heavy accents and large arm motions for visual appeal.
