Symphatomimetic amines
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Examples of indirectly acting symphatomimetic amines are tyramine, amphetamine and ephedrine, all structurally related to noradrenaline. Also methylphenidate. They have only weak actions on adrenoreceptors, but resemble noradrenaline enough to be transported into nerve terminals in uptake 1 (that is, the primary mechanism for uptake from the synaptic cleft, made by a symport ion channel, in exchange for noradrenaline.
