Pune is called the Queen of the Deccan because it is located in a picturesque part of the Plateau. Located at a distance of just two and a half hours (140 km) by the Expressway road and three and a half hours by train (162 km), Pune is well connected by domestic flights, trains and highways. An important educational centre, Pune is also called the Oxford of the East. Symbiosis is an important part of the reason for that sobriquet. With 24 institutes and 24,000 students on campus, Symbiosis is one of the largest private educational institutions in Maharashtra. Pune enjoys pleasant weather for much of the year. Around the city are the spectacular Sahyadri ranges of the Western Ghats. Pune itself is punctuated with green hills.
