Image talk:Symbol 3.jpg

  • Image:Symbol_3.jpg - I do not believe this image is GFDL-self as uploader claims. It is identical (other than GIF->JPG conversion) to an image from Dr. Hilton's When Did the Asteroids Become Minor Planets? web page (Table 2). Two days ago I asked the uploader if he was Dr. Hilton (seems unlikely, but presumably possible). I did not receive a response. —RP88 01:25, 19 February 2007 (UTC)
    • According to that page, the ultimate source for this image is Gould, B.A. 1852, On the Symbolic Notation of the Asteroids, Astron. J., 2, 80. This would make this image a clear case of PD-Old. Bryan Derksen 07:09, 25 February 2007 (UTC)
      • Well I certainly think they are PD-old instead of GFDL-self, but I wanted to give the uploader the opportunity to argue why he feels he should hold copyright in his JPG versions of the GIF versions from Dr. Hilton's page. It's unlikely, but I suppose possible, that he has some argument why his conversions contain sufficient "creative effort" to grant him copyright in his derivative versions. —RP88 07:27, 25 February 2007 (UTC)
