[edit] Background

Sylvain Chauveau was born in 1971 and now lives in Paris, France. Since 1998, he composes music for piano, strings, winds and electronics, with three main principles:

  • to stay as close as possible to the abstract beauty of ‘silence’;
  • to make sure that each sound committed is absolutely necessary
  • to find his own roots within his cultural and personal history.

He did concerts in France, United Kingdom, Taiwan, Singapore, Canada, Germany, Italy, Belgium, Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, Austria, Switzerland, Sweden, Greece, Czech Republic, Slovenia and Salvador.

He has released solo records on Type, FatCat and Les Disques du Soleil et de l'Acier. In 2002 and 2003, he toured in Europe with Icelandic atmospheric masters Sigur Ros. The year after he performed with Christian Fennesz, and also played with Bernhard Günter, Nikos Veliotis, and Phil Durrant.

He is the composer of the soundtracks for films by Sébastien Betbeder and worked for choreographers (Pierre Rigal / Aurélien Bory, Serge Ricci) and for performances with writers (Mark Z. Danielewski, Félicia Atkinson, Joris Lacoste).

Sylvain is also a member of the cinematic avant-rock band Arca (with Joan Cambon), of the ensemble 0 (with Maitane Sebastian, Stéphane Garin and Joël Merah), and of the improv duo ON (with Steven Hess).
