Sylhet Sadar is located at 24.8917° N 91.8833° E. It has 86074 units of house hold and total area 517.43 km².

As of 1991 Bangladesh census^[1], Sylhet Sadar has a population of 554412. Males constitute are 52.51% of the population, and females 47.49%. This Upazila's eighteen up population is 287304. Sylhet Sadar has an average literacy rate of 44.1% (7+ years), and the national average of 32.4% literate. ^[2]
