[edit] Your username

Please choose a different username. It's not an accident that your name is my name, only backwards. --Cyde Weys 23:38, 27 August 2006 (UTC)

Indeed you are correct, My apologies if this offends you. I am afraid I am not too familiar with wikipedia policy, but I would prefer to stick with the username that I have. Im currently in the middle of some edits of the Roger Nimier article so I'll finish those up and investigate the relevant policy in a moment. --Syew Edyc 23:49, 27 August 2006 (UTC)
You'll do no such thing! I'm blocking this username as a troll attempt. Theresa Knott | Taste the Korn 23:52, 27 August 2006 (UTC)
Hey! thats not nice :( I was writing useful info on him (following up my previous edits). Why did you block me! --Syew Edyc 23:54, 27 August 2006 (UTC)
Because your username is innapropriate. Why would you choose that name in the first place? Theresa Knott | Taste the Korn 23:56, 27 August 2006 (UTC)
(Grr edit conflict?) I don't even know what a troll is =/ , I just thought Cyde was an admirable administrator. How will I contribute if my IP is blocked? Could you at least unblock that? --Syew Edyc 23:59, 27 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Note

It is absolutely not a good idea to choose a username which is an explicit reference to the username of an established, known member of the community. Especially given that Cyde is an administrator.

You appear to be a genuine contributor, who was making valid, useful, worthwhile edits. That's the only reason I'm leaving you this message instead of simply writing you off as "just another pathetic vandal/impersonator".

Here are your choices.

  1. You can abandon this account, and start over with a new one.
  2. You can post a request for a username change.
  3. You can give up in disgust.

Frankly, I hope you choose 1 or 2, but 3 is always a possibility. DS 23:59, 27 August 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for your explanation. I will attempt the second option, I'm afraid I dont know how to do such a thing though. I'll try to look it up. --Syew Edyc 00:01, 28 August 2006 (UTC)
Just pick a name you want that already isn't taken and post it here. --Cyde Weys 00:05, 28 August 2006 (UTC)
You post a request on Wikipedia:Changing username, and a Bureaucrat (one step up from an administrator) will take care of it. I'd like to suggest that you read WP:USERNAME first, in particular the section on what's inappropriate. You'll need to be unblocked first; I'll take care of that now. I expect your first edit after the unblock to be a posting of your request for namechange. DS 00:08, 28 August 2006 (UTC)
Alternativly you can simply create a new account with a better username. You IP should not currently be blocked. Theresa Knott | Taste the Korn 00:09, 28 August 2006 (UTC)
I posted a request on Wikipedia:Changing username, I appreciate your help. From now on I will contribute as User:Gankutsuou (hopefully). --Syew Edyc

Should I refrain making edits before my username change goes through? I see a user has regretably reverted some content that I spent quite some effort to contribute, so I would like to settle that matter. --Syew Edyc 00:26, 28 August 2006 (UTC)

No. Just log in under your new username and start editing. If you have any problems let me know. Theresa Knott | Taste the Korn 00:28, 28 August 2006 (UTC)
Actually ALL of the content. Oh well it wasnt that much anyway. --Syew Edyc 00:27, 28 August 2006 (UTC)
It's been reverted back. Theresa Knott | Taste the Korn 00:33, 28 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Outcome

Yes, I think it would be best to wait until this little mess is cleared up (which shouldn't be too long).

Also, unfortunately, "Gankutsuo" is taken.

A lot of the time people register usernames and never do anything with them, but we have no policy about removing them. Pick a new name. DS 00:29, 28 August 2006 (UTC)

I don't see any reason for him to wait though. Wait for what exactly? Theresa Knott | Taste the Korn 00:32, 28 August 2006 (UTC)

Argh, thats too bad its taken, I had no idea. Hopefully I can come up with another good one soon so I can change my request. --Syew Edyc 00:34, 28 August 2006 (UTC)

I dont think I can think of any other good one. But, I dont think the "Gankutsuo" or "Gankutsuou" account has any edits, so do you think posting at Wikipedia:Changing_username/request_to_usurp will help? --Syew Edyc 00:45, 28 August 2006 (UTC)
No I think you would be simply wasting people's time. Just choose a different username, create a new account and start editing already. Enough of this sillyness. Theresa Knott | Taste the Korn 00:48, 28 August 2006 (UTC)
Sorry, I didnt mean to offend. I'm kind of confused right now since I was told to do two different things. Personally I prefer the Username change so I can preserve my edit and watchlist info. I guess I could just save the pages/copy my watch list/etc. --Syew Edyc 00:55, 28 August 2006 (UTC)
You have what 3 or 4 edits? And presumably 3 or 4 pages on your watchlist. Just create a new account already. Theresa Knott | Taste the Korn 00:58, 28 August 2006 (UTC)
OK, I still havent thought of a good name. But I'll log out of this account if that makes you happy. --Syew Edyc 01:02, 28 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Well

At least Ixfd64 has accepted that you meant well, and reinstated your edits. But don't try to make any more edits with this account - you may want to consult the [[Category:Imposters of Cyde]] to see why. DS 00:55, 28 August 2006 (UTC)

Wow. OK you have a point. --Syew Edyc 00:57, 28 August 2006 (UTC)
