Syed Naveed Qamar

Syed Naveed Qamar (Urdu: سیّد نوید قمر) (born September 22, 1955 in Karachi) is the current Federal Minister for Ports and Shipping, with additional portfolio of Privatization and Investment in the Yousaf Raza Gillani cabinet of the Government of Pakistan.[1] He also currently oversees the Ministry of Finance in the wake of the resignation of Ishaq Dar. He completed his B.Sc (Hons) in 1976 from Manchester University, UK followed by an MS in Management from Northrop University, USA in 1978 and MBA from California State University, USA in 1979.

He took oath for his current office on 24 March 2008[2] after being elected from NA-222 (Tando Muhammad Khan-cum-Hyderabad-cum-Badin) constituency, in the General Elections of 2008.[3]

Syed Naveed Qamar is a senior leader of Pakistan Peoples Party. He currently holds the position of Member Central Executive Committee in the party. He has served as Federal Minister for Finance and Privatisation in 1996, Chairman, Privatisation Commission in 1993, and Provincial Minister Sindh for Information in 1990. He was previously elected MPA, Sindh (1988-1990), MNA (1990-1993), MNA (1993-1996) and MNA (1997-1999). Syed Naveed Qamar is married and has three daughters and a son.[4]

For a short time, in 1988-89, Naveed Qamar also served as part of Computer Science faculty at FAST-NU, then called FAST-ICS. He has had the privilege of teaching the BASIC language to the first batch of students at FAST.
