Syed Modi

Syed Modi (1962-1988) was an Indian badminton player. He was an eight-time National Badminton champion, and won the Austrian Open in 1984.[1] Modi was murdered on July 23, 1988 in Lucknow as he came out of the KD Babu Stadium after a practice session and now has a badminton tournament named in his memory.[2] The scandal surrounding Modi's murder attracted worldwide attention[3] and remains unsolved with those charged having been set free.[4]

A brilliant career was cut shot and a severe blow was dealt to badminton in India as Modi was touted to be a superstar like Prakash Padukone.[citation needed]
