Syed Ghous Ali Shah (01/01/1934 (Urdu: سید غوث علی شاہ ) graduated from the Sindh Muslim Law College of the University of Karachi, Pakistan. He did his LLB from the Sindh Muslim Law College of the University of Karachi in 1957. He practiced Law till 1979. He was elected President of the District Bar Association Khairpur for a record term of six years continuously. He was elected to the highest elected office of the Advocates of Pakistan as its Vice Chairman for two terms in 1974 & 1979 when he was elevated to the bench as Judge of the Sindh High Court at Karachi. From 1981-1984 he was the provincial Minister for Law, Education, Culture, Sports & Local Government. In 1982 he received the Bronze Wolf Award from the World Commissioner of the World Scouting Organisation. This is the highest achievement award in all of Scouting in the world. He got premature retirement from the High Court & reentered politics. He was elected as member of the Provincial Assembly of the Province of Sindh and became leader of the house and Chief Minister of Sindh, Pakistan from 1985-1988. From 1986-1988 he was Chief Commissioner of the Pakistan Boy Scouts Association. In 1987 he wrote the 'Iqbal, Meeting Point of the East & West' lecture on Allama Iqbal which he delivered in the Heidelberg University in Germany, for which he received the Allama Iqbal Gold Medal. He was elected to the Parliament(National Assembly of Pakistan)in 1990 & became Defence minister of Pakistan till 1993. He was again elected to the Provincial Assembly of Sindh as well as National Assembly of Pakistan in 1997. He resigned his Provincial Assembly seat and became the Education Minister of Pakistan till 1999. During this time he was chosen,by the paiament by vote, to fill the nomination for the post of the President although this decision was changed under difficult circumstances in 1998. He was appointed Advisor to the Prime Minister of Pakistan for affairs of the Province of Sindh with powers of the Chief Minister & Status of a Federal Minster in June 1999. In 1997 he became Chief Commissioner of the whole Asia Pacific region of the World Scouting Organisation. He continued in this position till October 1999 when the Army of Pakistan took over in a Military Coup on the 12th of October 1999.

He is currently living in London,came here in October 2001 for private treatment. He is the Provincial head of the PML-N Sindh & has been elected for another 4 year term from 2006-2010 as President of the Sindh Province. He has been elected in this position on numerous occasions since 1986

He has Six children. Mr.Shabir Hyder Shah, Dr.Ali Hyder Shah,(Late)Mr. Amir Hyder Shah, Master Farhan Hyder Shah, Shahina Fatima Shah & Shahida Fatima Shah.
