I wish that there was some more history of the name== it used to be called Sloat's Landing, and the lake was called Sloat's lake, apparently.

My Great grandparents lived in Sydenham in the early years of the 20th Century.

His name was Cheshire O'Kell and he and his wife farmed on what I believe is called the old stage road. I may be wrong on that. They adopted a little girl from the Bellville orphanage, who was my grandmother. Her name was Emily O"Kell. She went to school in Sydenham and was Married to James Emburey, who came from England as a 16 year old and worked off his passage on a farm nearby.

They had 3 children in Canada, Cecil, Evelyn and Clay.

Evelyn was my mother. Kenneth LaRue.Canton, New York —Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.71.204.204 (talk) 23:53, 28 April 2008 (UTC)
