Sydney Theatre School is a theatre school located in Chippendale, Sydney. It provides Australia's only production-based training course for those wishing to pursue a career in professional acting. The school was founded in 2005 by Mark Matthews B.A., Dip. Ed, M.A., an experienced actor; theatre director; and qualified teacher.
[edit] Program
The school offers a one-year, part-time Diploma of Theatre Performance program with an intake every February. Students are accepted into the school based on their performance in an audition and interview. The program offers training in Acting; Voice; Movement; Improvisation; and Professional Practice that is integrated into the rehearsal period for each production. The School's philosophy is that acting is best learnt on the job and that performing in front of an audience provides students with the quickest and most effective way to learn and develop their craft.
[edit] Productions
The School stages three productions for each class during the year. Each production is directed by a highly experienced and qualified teacher / director. Productions are staged over several nights in the final week of each term, in front of a public audience. This allows those students wishing to enter the theatre, film or television industry the opportunity to showcase their work.
