The new modern day example section should include examples from more than just the GOP's side. In its current version, it lacks NPOV. Tetigit 22:08, 1 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Huh?
That first bit about figs and taxes makes no sense. Is this right?
- The OED has this to say:
- The origin of the Gr. word, lit. = ‘fig-shower’, has not been satisfactorily accounted for. The explanation, long current, that it orig. meant an informer against the unlawful exportation of figs cannot be substantiated. It is possible that the term referred orig. to the gesture of ‘making a fig’ or had an obscene implication: cf. FIG n.² (See Boisacq Dict. Étym. de la langue grecque.)
- So the explanation is "right" in the sense that it's not just nonsense someone made up for Wikipedia but the OED doubts whether it's actually true. DopefishJustin 00:44, 17 April 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Mr. Collins
I believe that Mr. Collins in Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen would be a great example of a sycophant. In fact my british Literature teacher told me he is. He is a pure sycophant. He is up front and forward. Very truthful in a bad way. He has pride and puts others bellow him.
