[edit] Helping with untagged images

Hi I am just going through these I am coming across lot of images you have already tagged please remove the ones you have tagged from the list once you have done them otherwise other people keep checking them thanks! Arnie587 22:43, 3 October 2005 (UTC)

[edit] More on stamp images

Let's continue this, if you want, on my talk page, where I have made other comments. ww2censor 03:35, 9 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Javascript

Sure. You add a few pre-fabricated lines of Javascript to your user script page (which would be located at User:Swollib/Monobook.js), and that adds a few features, such as a pseudo-rollback button and other neat things. The best place to ask about them is at WikiProject User scripts, which are dedicated specifically to make things like those. Hope that helps, and feel free to ask me about this or anything else at any time. Titoxd(?!? - help us) 23:13, 9 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Clarification

Hi, it seems Lee Redmond and its accompanying image were copyvios from Guinness websites. You may want to look at five pillars if you have not done so already. Also, your removal of copyvio notices from your talkpage without any sort of notification, communication or acknowledgement to the notifier may be viewed as poor form and more seriously, as an attempt to hide some thing. Surely you'd understand that people can still go through the history of your talkpage and figure out what happened. I understand that your talkpage belongs to you, but it is also an easy mode of communication for others, so it is wise to desist from what you have done without informing the notifier. I am here to build a free encyclopedia, just as I assume you are. Our objective should be to ensure doing that, without putting Wikipedia in harm's way. Copyvios are the surest way to put WP in dock, and I am sure that both of us do not want that to happen. You may want to review your previous edits to see if there are any potential copyvios and list them yourselves for deletion or more usefully, get the permission from such websites to release their content under GFDL. Best, --Gurubrahma 19:19, 14 January 2006 (UTC)

Hi Swollib, no need to apologise. All of us err; it is ok as long as we correct it. As far as creating articles goes, you can refer to any website or news source for gathering the facts; then, you need to write the material in your own words. Also, please mention sources for the articles you create so that they conform to WP:V. As you seem to have understood the gravity of the situation, I would have no problems if you were to delete this and the previous edit of mine. --Gurubrahma 00:40, 15 January 2006 (UTC)
They have been tagged as copyvios, I guess it would be a week before some admin gets to them and deletes them. I sincerely hope to see some good DYK entries from you in the near future, --Gurubrahma 00:44, 15 January 2006 (UTC)

de-indent Statistics are also a type of facts, so they cannot be copyrighted. However, make sure that you give a proper reference to the book in the references section of the article. Ayman al-Zawahiri - If you click on his image, you would land in the image page whch mentions that it was taken by a US Federal employee and is hence a Public Domain image or whatever. Please read WP:IUP to get a better idea as to what type of messages are ok and what are not. --Gurubrahma 01:00, 15 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Image:Wiki dudley.jpg

Hi, acording to the article this image is used in it's from the Texas Department of Criminal Justice. Doesn't that mean it's the work of a the Texas state government rather than the federal government of the United States. As such it is probably not in fact a "Work of the United States Government", and then most likely also not in the public domain. Do you have any more info on the origins of the image or the copyright practices of the Texan state government that could help clear this up? --Sherool (talk) 04:29, 29 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Image Tagging Image:15939121 full.jpg

Warning sign
This media may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:15939121 full.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is therefore unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the media on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then you can use {{GFDL}} to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media qualifies as fair use, please read fair use, and then use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other media, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on t--Sherool (talk) 18:33, 31 January 2006 (UTC)he "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. A number of your older pictures have inadequate source information. Please go over your image contributions and add the nessesary info, otherwise these images will be deleted. Thanks. --Sherool (talk) 18:34, 31 January 2006 (UTC)
Ok, thanks for pointing out the source, I replaced the Pd tag with the regular copyrighted stamp template though, I could find no proof that New Zealand stamps in general or these stamps in particular beeing in the public domain. If you know differently please include any such proof to the image page. --Sherool (talk) 01:10, 1 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Invercargill water tower

Hi, you uploaded Image:Inverc1.jpg back in November. It's a nice photo, and it's the only photo we currently have to illustrate the Invercargill article, so it would be a shame for Wikipedia to lose it, but that's exactly what's about to happen. There is no source information on the photo, so we can't keep it. If you took the photo yourself, please go to the photo page and add the tag {{pd-self}}, or a similar licence tag. I understand you put "No-rights-reserved" on it before, but that tag is no longer adequate because it doesn't show where the photo came from. If a friend of yours took the photo, and you have his or her permission to put it in the public domain, use {{pd-user|username}} (if they have a wikipedia account) or {{pd-because|Joe Bloggs, who took this photo, puts it in the public domain}}. See Wikipedia:Image_copyright_tags for more options.

It's important that you do this very soon, as the image is on the verge of being deleted.-gadfium 18:42, 7 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Your userpage was briefly delisted by a rogue admin

' This user believes that only articles need reflect a NPOV, and that displaying political, religious, or other beliefs using userboxes and user categories should not be banned.

You have a userbox Template:User UN which links your userpage to United Nations Wikipedians. There is currently a movement to ban userboxes from Wikipedia which are shared and which create List of Wikipedians. Certain admins have taken it upon themselves to preemptively sabotage and/or delete such categories and template. Here is the incident report which reported damage to yours, in which hundreds of userpages were delinked from categories without the users' knowledge. They have been stopped, barely, and the damage reverted— for now.

There is a Wikipedia:Userbox policy poll, which if passed, will make required by policy the damage done to categories and templates such as User UN/United Nations Wikipedians. If you do not want this to happen, I urge you to vote Oppose. in the poll. Support is currently running at about 66%, and your vote could make the difference. It is said to require 75%-80% to be deemed reflective of consensus.

Thank you,

[edit] Image Tagging for Image:Swap4kp.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Swap4kp.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the source and creator of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you don't indicate the source and creator of the image on the image's description page, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided source information for them as well.

[edit] Need your support

As a member of the Project Philately I would like to make you aware of a discussion about the Category:Philatelists that some of us have recently come to a consensus about. The discussion is here, but essentially a decision was made to try and remove all the subcategories that grouped the philatelists into country categories even though there are only just over 20 pages referenced and some of the subcategories had a few as 1 listing. Besides which, I would never go looking for a philatelist based on a country of origin, even if I knew it, I would look at the category for his/her name. Anyway, this is up for discussion now at a CfD, categories for deletion, page and I would appreciate if you would weigh in on the matter having first looked at the original discussion. I am sure you will see the benefit and logic of getting rid of these redundant subcategories and vote a Support for this. By way of reference, one of these subcategories was up for deletion a short time ago and basically all the non-philately people won the day, overriding the philatelic viewpoint. I am sure you would not want that to happen again. Do not delay as CfDs get dealt with fairly quickly. TIA ww2censor 20:11, 30 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] postcard copyright

Hi, unless you were the actual aerial photographer who created the image in Image:Ee337.JPG, it can't be GFDL-self. You might be able to argue fair use, although I don't see a good rationale myself, the picture side not being philatelically interesting. Stan 22:56, 13 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Welcome!

Hi, Swollib, welcome to WikiProject LGBT Studies!

We are a growing community of Wikipedia editors dedicated to identifying, categorizing, and improving articles of interest to the LGBT community. Some points that may be helpful:

  • Our main aim is to help improve LGBT-related articles, so if someone asks for help with an article, please try your hardest to help them if you are able.
  • Most important discussions take place on the project's main discussion page; it is highly recommended that you watchlist it.
  • The project has several ongoing and developing activities, such as article quality assessment, and a project-wide article collaboration, both of which you are welcome to take part in. We also have a unique program to improve our lower quality articles, Jumpaclass, so please consider signing up there.
  • If you have another language besides English, please consider adding yourself to our translation section, to help us improve our foreign LGBT topics.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask on the talk page, and we will be happy to help you.

And once again - Welcome!

[edit] Orphaned fair use image (Image:Trademe homepage.JPG)

Thanks for uploading Image:Trademe homepage.JPG. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. [edit] LGBT WikiProject Newsletter

The LGBT studies WikiProject Newsletter!
Issue III - February 1, 2007

Announcement: If someone requests help or feedback on an article, please try your hardest to help them out if you are able. Thank you.

Project News
  • The LGBT Portal has once again been revamped and a work rota started. Efforts towards Featured Portal status are slowly coming together.
  • The assessment system has been a great success, we have tagged over 4000 articles! Please tag any LGBT related articles you come across by adding {{LGBTProject | class=}} to the talkpage. Please see the Assessment Department for how to assess an article according to the grading system.
  • The Translation department has changed its focus, to LGBT articles about non-English topics and people on which there may be more information on the relevant foreign Wikipedia. Please add your name if you are fluent in any language other than English.
  • Jumpaclass is picking up slowly, with nine people having entered. With over 2000 stubs we need to improve our article quality. Please sign up and get it going! Challenge another user to see how far you can jump a stub!
  • There is an ongoing discussion about the current LGBT categorisation system here, here, and a little bit here. A special page has now been set up here to deal with this.
  • A Watchlist has been set up to monitor controversial and/or highly vandalised articles. It can also be used for article disputes, just add a note explaining the nature of the dispute.
  • With the influx of so many active members, there is now enough support for a LGBT studies peer review, which may be found here. It's in the beta phase at the moment, so bear with us if we make any mistakes. Feel free to peer review any articles you have been working on.
  • It was agreed this month to start reducing the uses of the Notice board, as many members felt that it was not effective. An open tasks template has been created, bringing together important announcements, FAC/FARs, Peer reviews, XfDs, the COTM, and requested articles. You may desire to watchlist it. A Deletion sorting subpage is also now working to bring together XfDs - this should be bot-driven, but we have not currently tagged enough articles to make this fully automated, so please update the list with any LGBT-related XfDs you come across.

[edit] Philately WikiProject

You are listed as a participant in the Philately WikiProject. Today I have created an inactive list consisting of those participants who have not made any philatelic edits for more than six months. I was going to use a 3 month cut off point but felt generous. You may be one of those editors, so if I have moved you and you want to remain an active participant, please forgive me, and move your name back from the inactive list to the active list. If you are still active on Wikipedia but are inactive in philately I hope there is no harm done in listing you as inactive. We really need more active participants for all philatelic articles. The Philately Portal has been running for some time and I am doing occasional updates, Postage stamps of Ireland is a candidate for featured article (that would be the first philatelic article), and several of the redlinks have been filled but we need more activity so if you are around please participate. Otherwise thanks for the work you have done in the past. Cheers ww2censor 00:30, 25 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:Wiki_dudley.jpg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Wiki_dudley.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. [edit] Orphaned non-free media (Image:Wiki christmas.JPG)

Thanks for uploading Image:Wiki christmas.JPG. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot (talk) 01:55, 12 February 2008 (UTC)
