Switzerland selected its participant for the Eurovision Song Contest 2008 using the same formula as in previous years - an internal decision. Artists were allowed to submit their proposition and song which would undergo review by a professional jury by October 22, 2007. The selection panel, consisting of members from the three major Swiss Television Centres, as well as VIVA Switzerland and radio DRS, selected the young Swiss artist Paolo Meneguzzi.[1]
Paolo Meneguzzi will sing the Italian composition, "Era Stupendo" ("It Was Wonderful"), which is a romantic ballad with 70's dance elements.[2] The song was officially presented during the sixth edition of the SwissAwards.

At Eurovision, Switzerland took part in the 2nd semifinal on 22 May 2008. Unfortunately, despite being one of the fans' favourites, the song failed to qualify for the final, a big disappointment for the Swiss who last won 20 years ago, in 1988, with "Ne partez pas sans moi" sung by Celine Dion.
