Switch 3 is an Australian band that began in Canberra in the Australian Capital Territory in late 2002. Difficult to define using gang signals, the band's style would fit somewhere in amongst the punk, indie rock, emo and non-fiction genres, but not uncomfortably. Since its formation, Switch 3 has established a broad bunch of willing followers, all of whom have taken seriously to their individual sound and tight pants.
According to both their website and myspace pages, Switch Three have recently been working on their latest album, to be released later in 2007.

[edit] History
Both Matt and Mick originally played together at the end of recess in a band called Lap Speed. Although Lap Speed was a punk band, both Maf and Mick’s musical influences differed in some areas. Maf, the main vocalist, spent his younger years rocking out to such bands as Led Zeppelin, the Cure, the Misfits, Good Charlotte and so forth. Mick on the other hand, was more influenced by bands like Soundgarden, Van Halen, Belinda Carlisle and Queen.
During the days of Lap Speed, Mick was the guitar player, but since starting Switch 3 he traded in his electric guitar for the bass guitar. Due to uncontrollable circumstances, Lap Speed had to break up leaving Matt and Mick without a band. The search for a new band started really close to home, in fact in Maf's home. His Mum didn't want to play, so Maf asked his older brother Ben to join the band.
With five years of classical training under his belt, Ben is an interesting breed of musician. There is only one thing that Ben seems to trust when it comes to his music, and that’s his ear. Ben makes sound, rather than write it down and remember his part visually like most musicians, he memorizes the sound and plays off that. Ben's initial reaction was to laugh at the idea of joining the band, but joined soon afterwards. One band that influenced Ben in his youth was Iron Maiden. Ben also played in other bands before Switch 3, but in those bands he was the bass player.
Since Mick turned to the sounds of the bass, a guitarist position remained vacant. Soon after agreeing to play guitar he went to a store to buy his new instrument, immediately settling on a Patrick Eggle guitar that he'd seen on sale. For people with little knowledge of guitars, Patrick Eggles are extremely rare and very expensive when found, and Ben luckily found one within his price range. This left one more vacant spot in the new band. Maf, Mick, and Ben needed a drummer.
Many ads were placed in newspapers and music shops to look for a drummer. The ad read, “Nice, must be quick and use a double kick.” Luckily the drummer they chose was not only quick with the double kick but had seven years of experience under his belt, having starred in the junior primary school band. When Nick Lucey joined the band he was at the ripe young age of 15 and still in high school. Once these four guys clicked together Voltron was formed.
It was in 2005 that Nick left the band, and the search for a new drummer began. After Nick's performances, it was going to be hard to find a replacement, but an easy replacement was found in Evan Dorrian, far exceeding the band's expectations. In early 2006, Evan and Mick began to add their vocal abilities to the band's overall sound.[1]
[edit] Band Members
The band's members, Maf Davis, Ben Davis, Evan Dorrian and Mick Hoorweg, are quoted by Blunt Magazine as being "a down to earth group of guys that love making music and respect people who make the effort to come and enjoy it." Punters beg to differ but never get the opportunity. The band also plays gigs in Sydney and the Crutch area surrounding Mick's Parents' place, New South Wales.[2]
[edit] Tours and TV Appearances
Switch 3 conducted a tour of Japan in 2005, which saw them sharing the stage with Japan's top melodic punk bands and winning over capacity crowds night after night in Shirahama, Osaka and Tokyo. Switch 3 have also had their songs played on local and national radio stations within Australia, as well as appearing on television shows Video Hits, Rage (May 2005) and Saturday Disney. [3]
