[edit] Introduction
Mike Sweeney A.K.A. Sweendog (Born August 17th,1989 in Regina Saskatchewan Canada) is a Canadian Backyard Wrestler. He wrestles for the FCW(Frontier Canadian Wrestling) based out of Regina Saskatchewan and is one of their featured talents. Residing in Calgary Alberta, the five time FCW Heavyweight Champion is one of backyard wrestlings most sought after and hardworking talents who is known for his never say die yet flamboyant attitude in the yard.
[edit] Early Years
In the early years Sweendog wrestled for the now defunct EVW(Extremely Violent Wrestling) under his real name Mike Sweeney. Mike usually took beatings at the hands of Chris Crow and Kyle Crow as well as the other members of the federation. Mike started wrestling for EVW at the tender age of 9 and was often outclassed by his opponents. His only victory came during a handicap match against Chris Crow when he teamed with his partner Wyatt(now known as FCW's Sly Wy) and hit a double neckbreaker for the win. However the beating Mike and Wyatt took in the match was brutal as both men were powerbombed on top of their heads and the ground before securing the victory. After the match Sweeney left EVW and was not seen for 3 years in the ring.
[edit] The Fed
On June 14th, 2003 Mike Sweeney started up the renegade promotion The Fed where he would now be known as Sweendog V1(Version One-the version of Mike Sweeney he always wanted to show). He competed in the first ever match on the date of the Fed's inception against Jacko. He would beat Jacko that night with The W.O.S.(Wrath Of Sweendog-A Standing Fireman's Carry into an Ace Crusher)to become the first ever Fed Heavyweight Champion. Sweendog took Jacko under his wing after the match and dubbed him Jacko V2. Sweendog would only hold the title for 2 weeks however before losing it to Cujo. Sweendog would use his rematch clause a week later and regain the championship from Cujo. Jacko was used as a momentary distraction and that was all Sweendog needed to hoist the much larger Cujo on to his shoulders and hit him with a Standing Fireman's Carry Slam to win the championship for a second time.
[edit] Feud With The Crock
During Sweendog's second title reign he would come face to face with The Crock who made his debut on July 10th of 2003. Crock won a handful of matches before interupting a promo by Sweendog and challenging him for the title. The cowardly heel that Sweendog portrayed at the time did not want to face the red hot crock out of fear of losing the championship. Sweendog would eventually face The Crock on in a one on one non-title match where if The Crock was victorious would get his title shot. Crock would win this match with the Peep's Elbow and during his post match promo Crock demanded his title match take place inside the confines of a cage, he demanded a Hell in a Cell Match.
HELL IN A CELL:
On July 30th,2003 Sweendog competed against the Crock in a Hell In A Cell match. The two would then brutalize each other for nearly 30 minutes before the match came to its close. Both men were bleeding from having their faces grated against the cage and it was The Crock who would lock on the Crock Lock in the final minute of the match and secure the victory. Sweendog however never did submit and still has not to this day, he passed out to the hold in a pool of his own blood and the match was stopped. The ref declared Crock the winner and new champion.
[edit] Time Away From The Ring/ Getting The Book
Mike took time off from wrestling after Hell in a Cell to nurse his wounds and not only that but to push the show behind the scenes as the head writer and booker for FCW( a job he still has to this day) Mike wrote The Fed's storylines and had the job of choosing who won each match and who would be pushed. During this time Sweeney also opened The Fed's training camp which would bring in some new faces to the ring. Some students from the camp were J.T., Turbo, Flyin Hawaiian and Pube Cair. Mike also chose to rename The Fed to Frontier Canadian Wrestling because he felt the prior name lacked originality. Sweeney had the Crock remain strong and defend his title for the next half year to add prestige to the championship. After those 6 months Sweendog was ready for his return to FCW.
[edit] Return To FCW
Sweendog returned to FCW on January 29th, 2004 on Monday Night Meltdown. That night he challenged The Crock for the FCW Championship outraged that he even lost the title "I never gave up and I never surrendered!" Sweendog complained. Sweendog and The Crock had the match that night and what would happen during the matches shocked viewer's everywhere. Sweendog had Crock up for The W.O.S. but preceded to let Crock down and shake his hand. Moments later the two brutalized the referee and announced their new found friendship. Thus Sweenevoloution was born.
[edit] Sweenevolution Era
Sweendog and The Crock ran rampant on FCW for the next year defeating everyone in their path, they even retired both Jacko and Cujo during their reign of terror. However during this time Crock was the one left with all the glory as champion and Sweendog acted as enforcer something that a man like Sweendog is not meant to do. Sweendog lurked in the shadows as The Crock was nearing his second year as champion. Sweendog would actually help The Crock in nearly all of his matches and would more than often be the sole reason The Crock would keep retaining night after night. Though Sweendog was meant to be a heel, the crowd was starting to get behind the talented performer because they respected his work in the ring. No matter how awful he was to the fans they could not help but cheer. It was by this point that Sweendog started questioning his allignment with The Crock. He decided to go against The Crock's wishes and enter the 10 man Total Rumble.
[edit] Babyface Turn
Sweendog was the third entrant in to The Total Rumble on January 16th, 2005. He outlasted the other men and eliminated 5 of the competitors in the match. The match came down to Sweendog ansd Jacko. Sweendog would make Jacko submit to his signature Ankle Lock to win the Total Rumble Crown. Crock was outraged realizing that the man who wins the Total Rumble is the number one contender to the FCW Championship. It was through The Crocks frustration that the feud between Crock and Sweendog once again seemed inevitable. Crock tried to reason with Sweendog and told him to just lay down for him in their championship match Sweendog however refused. It was at this moment that The Crock attacked Sweendog from behind and sent him flying down a flight of stairs attempting to show Sweendog who was in charge. The act of violence however only fueled Sweendog and he attacked Crock the following week with a W.O.S. and laid down the challenge. Sweendog vs The Crock for the FCW championship in a two out of three falls match at the first ever Fedamania!
[edit] A Few Bumps On The Road To Fedamania
During the time heading in to Fedamania Mike found a lump on the left side of his neck, he checked in to see his doctor and discovered that the lump was a benine tumor that would grow and become malignant if he did not get it removed in the near future. Mike obviously was very aware of the situation he was in and was ready to take some time off to go under the knife. However before he could do so one of his training camp students the young gun Turbo had challenged him to a match at the No Way In event in Toronto. If Turbo won the match he would take Sweendog's number one contender spot at Fedamania. Sweendog defeated Turbo in the opening contest at No Way In and the match was praised heavily and was one of both men's career matches. It was during this time that Mike began pushing some of his students behind the scenes so they could compete at Fedamania with some of the elite stars in the company. Flyin Hawaiian became the IC champion against Pube Cair that night in Toronto and more stars made their debuts the following weeks to fill the gap during Mike's absence. Mike Sweeney had successful surgery at Regina's Pasqua hospital and was now finally ready to take on The Crock at Fedamania.
[edit] Fedamania Preperation
After his surgery Mike contacted his long time friend and former employer in EVW Chris Crow and asked him if he would like to work for FCW and wrestle one of the new wrestlers Murder Ink at Fedamania. The two reached an agreement and Chris Crow was signed to FCW. Mike considers the pick up of Crow as one of his best aquisitions as he remains a star in the company today. Mike also decided that the company would shoot a feature length documentary on the company to hype up Fedamania. The movie was simply entitled "Fedamania The Movie". It was a movie that was half shoot half kayfabe and gave FCW what it needed to promote the huge Fedamania event that would take place on May 15th, 2005 in Regina Saskatchewan at The FCW Arena.
