[edit] PHYSICAL SCIENCE
This week we will be learning about a Great Scientist, Sir Isaac Newton! What makes him so great, you ask?! He was making observations of the planets, stars and simple objects here on Earth and seeing that they were somehow related. He was gracious enough to give credit to the people who had given ideas to him. He was smart enough (and I think he was just showing off at this point) to be able to put these ideas in simple equations that most everyone could understand! He was putting forth all these great ideas and gestures at a time when most folks still believed the world was flat!! We stand in awe of such greatness!!!
This week we will:
Monday - Sleep late, duh!
Tuesday - Review what you know of Newton's 3 Laws of Motion
What makes a Scientific Law and what makes a Theory?
We will demonstrate a variety of the Laws and how they apply to everyday life.
Homework - page 270 practice questions 1-3
Wednesday - We will continue to practice the 3 laws and how they relate to you
review for quiz on Thursday
Homework page 274. Section Review questions 1-6
Thursday - Quiz on Newton's 3 Laws
Introduce Work and Power as they relate to Science.
Calculate for Work and Power
Homework - pg 285 finish practice problems for Work
pg 287 finish practice problems for Power
Friday - Power Lab!!!!
We will put what we know about Power and Work to work!! We will find who has the
most Power in our class! so grab your gear and let's get to work!

This week we are discussing our Glorious SUN!!!!!!! It's like Goldilocks was saying!! IT'S JUST RIGHT! If our Sun was much bigger or smaller we could not exist here. If our Sun had too much power or not enough, we could not exist here. If we were too far away or too close, we.... well you get the picture! There is a lot we can learn about our Sun. So lets get started. The first thing is to get our Sun into the classroom! Hmmmmmmmmm!?!?!?!?!?
Monday - Yeah I'll let you sleep late too! Duh!
Tuesday - How can we get a Sun into our Room?!
I guess we'll have to build one. Sing it with
me now, can we build it? Yes, we can! We will construct a Sun to scale in our room.
Obviously, we can't take over the whole room. So, we'll work all that out.
Homework - go online and find 3 interesting facts about our Sun. Check out
[1] to find some decent info.
Wednesday - Now we need to create some of the parts that make up our Sun.
Check out figure 28-3 on page 575. That will give us the layers of the Sun and the
average temperature. Don't stare at it for too long, you might go blind.
Thursday - Today we talk about Solar Activity.
Our Sun works up quite a sweat with all
that it is doing. We will diagram our Sun with all those coronal mass
ejections. Sounds nasty, doesn't it? I hope they don't wipe out my page for
some of the vocabulary words.!
