Sweden has had bad results at JESC, finishing near the bottom every time, since they entered the first contest in 2003. Broadcaster SVT withdrew from the JESC after 2005, but the commercial Swedish broadcaster TV4 took over the JESC 2006. Sweden will, the atumn 2006 also partipicate in Melodi Grand Prix Nordic, via SVT.
The Swedish national selection is Lilla Melodifestivalen. 2003-2005, when broadcasted by SVT, it was sent in early October. In 2006, it was sent at September 2. It is every year watched by about 1.5 million, or 17 % of Swedish people.
All the Swedish entries have been sung by girls. Until 2006, all of the entries have finished 15th. But in 2006, Molly Sandén received a record position of 3rd place, despite the fact no Scandinavian countries competed and could vote.
TV4 have confirmed their participation for 2007 and they were going to choose their representitive on 8th September. However, because TV4 are participating in the very first Eurovision Dance Contest on 1st September they brought the selection forward to 31st August in order to make it a special Eurovision weekend. They won't be participating in 2008 due to TV4's withdrawal.
