For the 43rd Eurovision Song Contest, Sweden held a national final, namely Melodifestivalen 1998 to select an entry. 10 songs competed in the show (5 in a second round) and the chosen entry was Kärleken är (Love is) with Jill Johnson. Despite being a country singer, her song composed by Bobby Ljunggren and Håkan Almqvist, and written by Ingela "Pling" Forsman, was a typical ballad. It is the last ballad to date which has represented Sweden in Eurovision. The song is said to be a tribute to the recently deceased Diana, Princess of Wales.

Jill sung as number 16 in ESC. After receiving 53 points (including 12 points from Estonia) she finished 10th.
