Sweden was the host of the Eurovision Song Contest 1992, thanks to Carola Häggkvist's victory in Eurovision Song Contest 1991. After hosting [what] in the largest and second largest cities of Sweden, Sveriges Television chose to hold the contest in Malmö, the countrys's third city. The Swedish entry was chosen in the by now classic national final Melodifestivalen. Winner of 1 544 submitted entries (10 in the final) was Christer Björkman and his song Imorgon är en annan dag (Tomorrow is another day), which was written by Niklas Strömstedt.
Christer sung #7 in the grand final. The voting certainly did not go well for the Swedes, and after a victory last year, Sweden now found themselves second from last with only 9 points (4 from Denmark and Yugoslavia and 1 from France). This is yet today the worst placement a host country has ever got in ESC.
