Sweden chose their song and performer for the Eurovision Song Contest 1991 by holding a national final, Melodifestivalen 1991. Carola Häggkvist (then Søgaard), who had represented Sweden in 1983 and then came 3rd, and now was one of Swedens most popular sigers, won by far. Her song, written by Stefan Berg, was called Fångad av en stormvind.
Carola was drawn to sing as #8 in the final held in Rome, but the sound broke down during her performance, so the live audience could not hear her, even if the wiewers and juries around Europe could. She sung one spot earlier than the French representant Amina, who she would later fight against for the victory, as the voting was the closest ever since the current voting system was introduced in 1975. Sweden and France ended up on excactly the same amount of points. The judges had to make a countback to see who had got the most maximum (12) points, but also here it was even. They then went down to the 10 points, where Sweden had 5 compared to France's 2. So Carola was finally declared winner and Sweden had taken a third victory. The song was later translated into English and called Captured by a lovestorm.
