Following the Herreys vitory the previous year, Sweden were the hosts of the Eurovision Song Contest 1985. The show was chosen to be held in Gothenburg, the country's second city.
In order to save money for the arrangement of ESC, Sveriges Television made a low-budget edition of the national selection, Melodifestivalen 1985. Among the 10 entries, 5 went to a second round, where the song Bra vibrationer, written by Lasse Holm and Ingela "Pling" Forsman and sung by Kikki Danielsson. Kikki had already represented Sweden three years earlier, then as part of the pop group Chips.
Sweden performed 16th, or fourth from last. For the final, the song's title was translated into "Good Vibrations". It did very well in the voting and came 3rd with 103 points, 20 points after the winner.
