[edit] Merge?
I think this category should be merged with Category:Swedish cartoonists. 惑乱 分からん * \)/ (\ (< \) (2 /) /)/ * 12:29, 2 October 2007 (UTC)
- I don't see the need. Cartoonists are a different thing to comics artists and this category has enough entries already to seem viable (with plenty of potential for expansion). It is also part of a broader pattern of categories (see Category:Comics artists by nationality) which is a solid, well-established and useful categorisation. (Emperor 18:08, 2 October 2007 (UTC))

- But none of the artists featured there are cartoonists, but not comics artists. (Bruno Liljefors is primarily a fine artist.) 惑乱 分からん * \)/ (\ (< \) (2 /) /)/ * 22:18, 2 October 2007 (UTC)

- I'm not 100% sure I understand. Are you saying that none of the cartoonists in the Swedish cartoonists category are actually cartoonists? Or are you saying none of the people in this category are actually comics artists? If the latter all of the entries state clearly at the top that they are Swedish comics creators/artists at the start which seems rock solid for their inclusion here (a lot having worked on The Phantom). Also Liljefors article says "He also drew some sequential picture stories, making him one of the early Swedish comic creators" which would qualify him for this category. I don't know enough about Swedish cartoonists to comment on whether the various articles should be in there but if there are any that shouldn't either remove them or find some other experts on this and put your heads together and come to a consensus. If there is a broader issue (or you want a second opinion - as I am unsure how many people watch this category) feel free to ask on the comics project talk page. (Emperor 22:56, 2 October 2007 (UTC))

- What I'm trying to say is that "cartoonist" is an ambiguous title, and all or most people in the Category:Swedish cartoonists are primarily comics artists. 惑乱 分からん * \)/ (\ (< \) (2 /) /)/ * 13:26, 3 October 2007 (UTC)

- OK thanks for clarifying. Cartoons are fairly well understood in this regard and the Swedish version is in line with others (e.g. Category:British cartoonists) and I had a look through the Swedish cartoonists category and there are certainly people there who fit the bill but wouldn't fit here properly. I think your best bet is to go through that category and remove the comics artists from there (and add them in here if necessary) - I largely think the problem is one of mis-categorisation rather than it being a bad category (so human error rather than a need to do anything with the categories - as it stands I'd not support a merge). Worth dropping a note into the talk pages if you re-categorise things as it might be they do qualify but the entry needs clarification. (Emperor 14:26, 3 October 2007 (UTC))

- Okay, I should do that. Also "cartoonist" is often used as a synonym to "Comics artist". I could go through all cartoonists, though, and see who would fit better into the (single panel) cartoonist category. Many on the list have done both comics and cartoons, as well. 惑乱 分からん * \)/ (\ (< \) (2 /) /)/ * 14:34, 3 October 2007 (UTC)

- But that isn't how we use cartoonist here - there are indeed people who fit in both and some who are one and not the other. Although there is crossover the distinction works on other cartoonists by nationality so should be fine here. If there are any concerns it can be raised on the Comics Project talk page.
