[edit] History
They:Swarm was formed in early 2003 under the name of "Whorecore", by Nir Doliner (guitar), Tomer Jones (vocals), Assaf Meidan (drums), Ariel Ron (vocals), Eran Segal (guitar), and Yaron Shacham (bass).
Shortly after the band had its initial line up in order they started playing as much shows as possible with total disregard to the type of venue or their own personal safety on stage. After intense months of playing (and injuries) the band gathered audiences ranging from metal to punk and hardcore scenes, and through that process earned their name as one of Israel's best live acts.
In early 2004 Haim Binyami (AKA Evil Haim) came in to replace Yaron on the bass position.
In January 2006 the band self released their debut cd "Protection" in Israel, and on April went on a tour in Europe with Macabre and Jungle Rot. After having parted ways with original vocalist Ariel, the band took in long time friend Sven De Caluwe (of Aborted and Leng Tche) and returned to the classic two vocalist line up.
On January 2008, the band members announced they are breaking up the band because of vocalist Tomer Jones' departure to focus on his new career as a porn star.
The announcement later was confirmed as a hoax, and the band announced that they are actually just renaming the band from Whorecore to They:Swarm, before the release of their new EP.
The band's new EP "The Mundane Corruption" was released on February 22, 2008 and the band is currently working on new material to get ready to record a full length album, to be released in late 2008.
In early May 2008 it was announced that growl vocalist Sven De Caluwe will be leaving the band to focus on his other band - Aborted. He played his last show on the band on May 10, 2008 in Haifa, Israel as part of the "No City Unbreakable" Israeli tour.
[edit] Musical style
The band's basic musical style is described as a combination of Brutal death metal and Grindcore, much like fellow Belgium band Aborted in which now sings former vocalist Sven De Caluwe.
Thoguh many times the band is also lableled as Crust punk, Deathgrind, Goregrind, Deathcore and Metalcore, those genres aren't always right and reflect exactly the band's style as the band members cite they always see the band as a Brutal/Death metal band, although some Deathgrind, Goregrind and Crust punk elements could be heard in their music. Such style combination allowed the band to attract many fans from different music scenes such as fans of Death metal, Punk rock, Metalcore Power violence and Hardcore punk, additionaly to obvious fans of Brutal death metal, Grindcore and Deathgrind.
The band's influences are very varied and they vary from Grind/Deathgrind bands to Punk bands. The band cites its influences as being Nasum, Dying Fetus, Brutal Truth, Regurgitate, Pantera, Cannibal Corpse, Carcass, Napalm Death, Sick of It All, Cephalic Carnage, Joan Baez, Biohazard, Slayer, Hatebreed, Morbid Angel, Malevolent Creation, His Hero Is Gone and many more.[1]
