- 1920: A signal box was established here.
- 1925: The signal box was destroyed by fire following a lighting strike.
- 1970: The signal box was removed.
- 1972: The station closed to all goods traffic.
- 1972: All buildings were removed and replaced with a platform shelter.
- 1995: The old weatherboard Avondale Train Station building was relocated to this station. It is now home to the Swanson Station Cafe.
- 2000: A new platform was established on the east side of the tracks.
- 2008: A new platform was established on the west side of the tracks, the east side platform will be re-established to provide platforms on each side of the new double track.
