From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ramanand Swami (Devnagari: रामानान्द स्वामी) was born Shri Rama Sharma to a Brahmin family in Ayodhya in Vikram Samvat 1795. His parents were Ajay Sharma (father) and Sumati (mother). He was considered to be the incarnation of Uddhavaji, a close friend of Krishna. Ramanand Swami was the head of the Uddhav Sampraday.

Ramanand Swami was also the guru of Bhagwan Swaminarayan who concluded his 11 year journey at his ashram in Loj, Gujarat. Muktanand Swami, one of Ramanand Swami's senior monk-disciples, answered Bhagwan Swaminarayan's, (who at the time was Neelkanth Varni) questions and persuaded him to stay.
