[edit] History
The idea dated back in 2004, when the 9.1-magnitude underwater earthquake caused a huge tsunami in Banda Aceh Indonesia, when amateur footage of the tragedy was broadcast to almost all broadcasting station and was much more popular than normal news coverage done by professional journalist. The first acquaintance with the word citizen journalism.
Taufik Kurniawan, who owns the idea of making this site, was disappointed as he was living abroad and needed to be exposed by home country news, when he couldn't find the news he wants to read on his once favorite online news site (detik.com). On the contrary he found a lot of news and information about his home country in a forum discussion
Although the domain swaberita.com and swaberita.net have been held since 2006, the construction of the online news site based on citizen journalism can only be materialized during the April 2008 with the help of his friend, Joko Nugroho, by creating an initiative called tijecorp ( from the word tee = 'T' and jee = 'J', which are their both initials )
